Aston Martin confirm Stroll won’t participate in Singapore GP

The Aston Martin Formula 1 team have confirmed that Lance Stroll will not participate in today’s Singapore Grand Prix.

Stroll suffered a high-speed crash at the final corner in yesterday’s qualifying session, heavily damaging his car and forcing the Canadian to visit the medical centre.

Stroll was attempting to escape the Q1 drop zone when he got caught on the outside kerb at the last corner and endured a hefty shunt with the barrier, prompting a lengthy delay before qualifying resumed.

While Stroll was cleared of any substantial injuries, Aston Martin has announced that he won’t compete in this evening’s race at the Marina Bay Circuit.

The team have said the decision was made by both parties, citing how Stroll was still feeling sore as a result of the impact and the huge repair job needed on his AMR23 car.

Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack said: “The whole team are relieved that Lance was able to step out of the car after yesterday’s accident – however, he is still feeling the after-effects of such a high-impact crash. Our priority now is that he makes a full and speedy recovery.

“Together, we have decided that he will sit out this evening’s race and instead focus fully on returning to the cockpit for next weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.”

Stroll was scheduled to start the Singapore GP from last on the grid.
