Take a look at the new Michael Mann film — ‘Ferrari’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The trailer for director Michael Mann’s new movie ‘Ferrari’ has just been released, offering a look into the life of the legendary Italian marque’s founder Enzo.

Mann is famous for directing legendary Hollywood films such as ‘Heat’, starring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer, and ‘Collateral’ starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx, but he’s now swapped the world of crime thrillers for that of racing with his latest cinematic venture.

Racing fans the world over will be familiar with Enzo Ferrari and his exploits in building the legendary car brand in his name, plus Ferrari’s exploits in Formula 1 and SportsCar racing.

Adam Driver is the man filling Il Commendatore’s shoes and the film focuses on a particular traumatic part of the Italian’s life.

The official synopsis of the film reads: ‘Ferrari is set during the summer of 1957. Ex-racecar driver, Ferrari, is in crisis. Bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura, built from nothing ten years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for one son and the acknowledgement of another. He decides to counter his losses by rolling the dice on one race – 1,000 miles across Italy, the iconic Mille Miglia.’

The tragic death of Enzo’s son Dino aside, racing fans will be able to get their teeth sunk into the Mille Miglia brought to life on the big screen.

Now a classic car rally, the Mille Miglia was first run way back in 1927 as a full-blooded endurance racing event.

The course wound itself in a figure of eight on public roads, running from Brescia to Rome and back again, covering approximately 1000 miles.

Legendary drivers such as Tazio Nuvolari and Stirling Moss took part, but a tragic crash in the 1957 event, in which Enzo found himself charged with manslaughter, brought an end to the event as a thoroughbred motor race.

Ferrari makes its way to cinemas on Boxing Day, you can check out the trailer below.
