Charles Leclerc joined the list of retirements after circulating towards of the back of the field. His Ferrari had picked up floor damage in contact with Oscar Piastri on the opening lap.

The rain came back with greater intensity on Lap 60, and again Perez was the first to stop for intermediates however his early call would not overturn Verstappen’s lead.

A red flag came out on Lap 65 after Guanyu Zhou found the barriers at Turn 1 as the rain battered down on the circuit.

After a 40 minute stoppage, race resumed after two laps behind the Safety Car. Verstappen crossed the line 3.744s ahead of Fernando Alonso.

Perez crossed the line third but was demoted to fourth having received a five second time penalty for speeding in the pitlane. Pierre Gasly inherited third.
