Hamilton: No concerns over Pitt’s age for F1 driver movie role
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Lewis Hamilton says he has no concerns over Brad Pitt’s age for his role as a Formula 1 driver in an upcoming movie

Pitt, one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, is posing as F1 driver Sonny Hayes in an Apple Originals movie.

Filming is taking place at Silverstone this weekend, with the fictional APX GP team having a car, garage set-up and team personnel to shoot scenes.

In the modern F1 era, F1 drivers traditionally compete throughout their 20s and 30s amid their peak fitness levels, and questions have been raised over the realistic nature of Pitt portraying a driver, as he will turn 60 later this year.

But Hamilton, who is involved as a producer, says he doesn’t think it will be a problem regarding authenticity.

“Well, firstly, Brad looks like he’s aging backwards, so, I mean, he looks great for his age,” Hamilton said.

“Of course that was a big topic at the beginning when we were discussing the original… the first story. He’s super-fit, he’s been training.

“At the end of the day, it’s a movie, so there will be a Hollywood element to it that will make it believable.

Hamilton is working as a producer on the movie

“Brad’s such an iconic actor, he’s always done such an incredible job, so I can’t tell you how excited I am to have Brad Pitt in the Formula 1 movie. It’s incredible. I think he’s going to do a great job.”

The director of the movie, Joseph Kosinski, recently stated that he wanted to make his project the most authentic and accurate F1 movie ever made.

Hamilton pointed to Kosinski’s portfolio, which includes the highly acclaimed Top Gun: Maverick movie, to highlight how he plans to capture the true speed and atmosphere of F1.

“Our cameras are a lot better than what you’re seeing when you’re watching TV,” Hamilton said.

“I’ve seen all the footage of the camera positions. I’ve spent time with Joe, trying to make sure we’ve got the best camera positions and the frame rate is different, it’s going to look fast.

“I think it’s going to look faster than it does on TV. Because I think it’s something to do with the frame rate that we have to have.

“But Joe is an incredible director, and I think you’re going to see him really… You’ve already seen what he’s done with fighter jets, what is what he did with Maverick.

“So just think about what he’s done with that in terms of the dogfights you saw from those jets, which was pretty epic.

“And bringing that technology and that viewpoint into our world, I think it’s going to be amazing.”

The oldest F1 driver to ever start a race was Monegasque Louis Chiron, who was 55 at the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix.
