FRECA driver van’ t Hoff dies in Spa crash

The Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine has confirmed that Dutch driver Dilano van ‘t Hoff has died following a crash at Spa-Francorchamps.

The incident occurred in the later stages of race two at the Belgian venue along the start of the Kemmel straight.

It marks the second fatal accident in the last five years at that section of track, as in 2019, Anthoine Hubert lost his life following a major incident in FIA Formula 2.

The conditions of the other drivers involved in the accident with van’ t Hoff are currently unknown.

“Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine sadly announces the death of MPMotorsport driver Dilano Van ‘T Hoff,” read a statement from the category. 

“The incident happened during Spa-Francorchamps race 2. We want to express our sincere condolences to the family, team and friends.

“Royal Automobile Club of Belgium, the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps and SRO Motorsports Group join Alpine and ACI in expressing their sincerest condolences to the driver’s family, team and friends.”

Van ’t Hoff raced for MP Motorsport in the series spending over half of the 2022 campaign with the Dutch team.

The 18-year-old is a champion in the Spanish Formula 4 category, prevailing in 2021 before stepping up to FRECA.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali paid tribute to van ‘t Hoff on behalf of the series.

“We are so sad to learn of the passing of Dilano van ‘t Hoff today at Spa-Francorchamps,” he said “Dilano died in pursuit of his dream to reach the pinnacle of motorsport. A

“long with the entire motorsport community, our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

Motorsport Week sends its condolences to the family of friends of Dilano van ’t Hoff.
