Mick Schumacher will make his debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month and will get behind the wheel of one of his father’s Formula 1 cars.
Having driven a series of older Ferrari and Benetton cars driven by Michael Schumacher, the 24-year-old will now get to experience an older-generation Mercedes car.
Schumacher will drive the W02 at the festival, which was piloted by Michael and his team-mate Nico Rosberg in 2011.
It scored a best result of fourth in the hands of Schumacher at the Canadian Grand Prix.
“It’s going to be spectacular to run in my Dad’s 2011 car, the W02, even if it is only a short run,” Schumacher said. “Just experiencing this generation of cars will be mega!
“Knowing that he raced this car makes it extra special, and there will be many emotions coming with it.
“I have been lucky enough to drive one of his Benetton cars and some of the Ferraris he raced, but this will be the first time behind the wheel of a Mercedes he drove.
“I am sure I will get out of it with a big smile on my face.”
Schumacher is currently working with the Mercedes F1 team as a reserve driver.
He raced full-time in F1 for two seasons with Haas but was dropped at the end of the 2022 campaign.
Also present at the festival will be the W12, which took part in the 2021 season and delivered Mercedes its record-breaking eighth Constructors’ Championship.
Esteban Gutierrez will be behind the wheel of the W12 car at Goodwood.
The festival will take place from July 14 – 16.
