F1: No risk to Canadian GP amid wildfires

Circuit atmosphere. Canadian Grand Prix, Sunday 19th June 2022. Montreal, Canada.

Formula 1 has emphasised that there is no risk to next weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix after wildfires and consequent smoke across swathes of North America.

Wildfires in Canada, along with strong winds, have driven smoke across parts of the country, as well as stretching into the Northeast and Midwest in the United States.

That has caused air quality levels in some regions to deteriorate and has affected flights, as well as some sporting and entertainment events.

Formula 1 has been in dialogue with the local promoter in Montreal and has assured that next weekend’s event, at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, is not in danger of being impacted by the wildfires.
