Sainz cools concerns over ‘injury’ ahead of Monaco GP
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Carlos Sainz asserts that he is not in danger of missing out on the Monaco Grand Prix after picking up a knock during a charity football match.

Sainz was taking part in the annual Monaco charity game on the build-up to the race weekend, with other drivers such as Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly also attending.

An image of Sainz circulated online after the match of bandage strapping being applied to his right thigh after he was substituted.

It led to speculation that the Ferrari driver may not be fit enough to take part in the Monaco race weekend.

However, taking to social media, the Spaniard put all concerns to bed.

“Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that I am well and completely ready to race this weekend in Monaco,” Sainz said.

“What happened yesterday was simply a contact during the traditional charity football match, but it was not an injury.

“I enjoyed playing football as I always do and now I am really looking forward to the weekend.

Ferrari enters the weekend hoping to overcome a difficult run of form that leaves it third in the Constructors’ Championship after the opening five rounds.

Last time out in Monaco, Leclerc and Sainz locked out the front row but endured a difficult race that saw Red Bull emerge victorious at the finish line through Sergio Perez.

The Maranello-based squad is not expected to bring any significant updates to the race track, unlike rivals Mercedes.
