Formula 1 teams have been instructed not to attend the Imola circuit on Wednesday amid ongoing concerns following extreme weather in the area.
Emilia Romagna was struck by heavy rainfall throughout Tuesday that has caused flooding and landslides in the region.
Personnel preparing for the weekend’s activities were instructed to leave the circuit on Tuesday afternoon as a precaution.
The situation at the circuit is accentuated by the nearby Santerno river, which carries water from the Apennines, and which was placed on red alert due to the excessive rainfall.
Conditions are set to improve throughout Wednesday and, while further showers are forecast this week, they are only light in comparison to rainfall levels across the last 24-36 hours.
It is understood that while some facilities at Imola have been affected, including the broadcast compound, the Formula 1 paddock itself has not been flooded.
However the absence of personnel on Wednesday means preparations have been pushed back while there is also concern of damage to surrounding infrastructure in the region and the disruption this will cause.
Several nearby towns, including AlphaTauri’s hometown Faenza, have been affected by flooding, with some team members evacuated on Tuesday night.
Formula 1 and the FIA are due to converse with local authorities on Wednesday to evaluate the situation.
