Williams withdraw Sargeant’s car from Azerbaijan Sprint race

Williams has elected to withdraw Logan Sargeant’s car from Saturday’s sprint race in Azerbaijan after his crash in qualifying earlier today.

Having made it through to Q2 for the first time in his Formula 1 career in yesterday’s qualifying hour, the American racer set a time that was good enough to repeat that feat during this morning’s inaugural Sprint Shootout.

However, a late crash at the exit of Turn 15 in the first stage saw him park his car and meant he was unable to participate alongside team-mate Alex Albon in SQ2.

Instead of lining up 15th this afternoon, Sargeant’s FW45 will not be featuring, leaving Albon – starting an impressive seventh – the only Williams in the shorter distance race.

“The Stewards have received a request from Williams Racing to withdraw Car 2 from the Sprint following the Sprint Shootout incident.

“This request is approved. The grid positions will be determined in accordance with Article 42.4 of the Formula One Sporting Regulations”.

Logan’s car will not run in the #F1Sprint this afternoon despite the best efforts of the team. 😔
