Hungaroring set to renovate facilities by 2026 F1 round

Organisers at the Hungaroring have outlined that much-needed renovations will be made to its facilities, which it is hoped will be completed by 2026.

Formula 1’s Hungarian Grand Prix has been held at the Hungaroring annually since 1986 and only Monza has a longer unbroken spell on the calendar.

The event has a contract with Formula 1 through 2027 but is chasing an extension until 2032 – with a renovation of the paddock facilities a key component of a prospective new deal.

“The infrastructure no longer meets the requirements of Formula 1,” said Zsolt Gyulay, CEO of the Hungaroring.

“Everything from the size of the garages to the width of the paddock and the main building must be renewed.”

It is anticipated that the new paddock complex will be completed in time for the 2026 event.

A new main entrance and race control tower, along with a 10,000-seater covered grandstand, are also set to be constructed.

“We started negotiating the contract extension a year ago,” said Gyulay.

“With the arrival of the American races, the interest [in Formula 1] is even greater, if it can be increased at all.

“We are negotiating a contract until 2032 and an additional five-year option, with which we will have the longest contract in Europe.”

Organisers are also evaluating the feasibility of hosting motorcycle races in the future.
