Is rain on the horizon for the 2023 Australian GP?

This weekend, Melbourne hosts the third round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship.

Albert Park has been a frequent fixture on the F1 calendar since 1996, but was absent for a handful of years during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Traditionally the opening round of the year, Australia has shifted a little deeper into the calendar since its return in 2022.

Charles Leclerc is the reigning winner from the race last year, with World Champion Max Verstappen retiring from the event due to a fuel leak.

The first two rounds of the 2023 campaign held in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were hot and humid – but this weekend in Australia, conditions are set to be much cooler.

There is also a chance of rain on all three days of action, most prominently on Friday.

The first day of on-track action in Melbourne is set to start off dry, but according to the Bureau of Meteorology in Australia, there is a high chance of showers in the afternoon.

The maximum temperature expected during the day is 19 degrees celsius.

Saturday, qualifying day, will also see a chance of rain, but this is downgraded to a medium possibility compared to Friday, with a maximum temperature of 17 degrees expected.

On race day, there is not rain expected but conditions may be warmer than Saturday with a max temperature of 19 degrees forecast. The grand prix itself should see dry conditions.

Below, see a more detailed weather forecast.
