Norris reveals F1 livery he wants to see McLaren return to
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Lando Norris has named the livery that he would like to see McLaren return to in the future.

The colour scheme that he has highlighted is the famous chrome and red colours that was used for many years, the last being 2013.

The livery was influenced by ex-title sponsor Vodafone, who was partnered with McLaren for several seasons.

It was also the design that was used in 2008 when Lewis Hamilton won his maiden F1 title in dramatic fashion at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

At the start of the turbo-hybrid era, McLaren played with a couple of different design schemes before rebranding to a papaya colour in 2017.

But Norris says that the chrome and red colours originally sparked his interest in F1 and is in favour of seeing it return.

“My favourite bunch. This is Lewis-Fernando [era],” he told GQ Sports, referring to the 2007 campaign in which the two titans partnered each other.

“Big rivalry. This is what got me into Formula 1 watching these cars go round,

“I started actually supporting McLaren just because they looked cool. I’ve asked Zak [Brown] many times to go back to this.”

Having held an interest in McLaren for some time, Norris was signed to its junior programme before he made his race debut for it in 2019.

Reflecting on the first time he saw the McLaren headquarters in Woking, Norris said: “I remember coming in here for the first time, I was like 12 or 13.”

“It was quite a scary building to come into when I was that young. You have all of the corridors downstairs, they look like they go down forever.”

The Woking-based squad has ran one-off special liveries before, including at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix where its car sported the colours of Gulf.
