Fernando Alonso has ended the second practice session from the Bahrain International Circuit as the fastest driver.

The Spaniard outpaced both Red Bull drivers, with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez ending the session in second and third respectively.

Aston Martin’s strong pace was packed up by Lance Stroll’s run to sixth place, despite having limited running at the track so far.

However, questions marks have arisen over his participation in the remainder of the weekend after he complained of wrist pain during the session.

There was also a surprise in Nico Hulkenberg, who popped himself into fifth place in the time sheet.

Mercedes also had a disappointing session, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell ending up in eighth and 13th respectively.
