What is Verstappen’s dream driver line-up from the current F1 grid?

Max Verstappen has named his dream driver line-up from the current Formula 1 grid.

Verstappen enters the 2023 F1 season as the reigning World Champion, having picked up his second title in dominant fashion last year.

The Dutchman will partner Sergio Perez for a third consecutive season, as Red Bull goes in hunt of another strong campaign.

Ahead of pre-season testing in Bahrain later this week, Verstappen was asked by Mobil 1 The Grid who he would select as his dream line-up, outside of himself.

The 25-year-old didn’t pick Lewis Hamilton, the most successful driver in the sport’s history – but did mention an experienced name as his first selection.

“I find that really hard, the drivers, because I think there are a lot of good drivers. And I would go probably for an experienced one. So I would go for Fernando [Alonso].”

Alonso is the most experienced F1 driver of all time, tallying over 350 grand prix starts during his stint in the sport to date.

Verstappen and Alonso are known to share a respectable relationship and have often complimented one another’s abilities.

As for his team-mate in Verstappen’s squad, the Dutchman went with McLaren’s Lando Norris.

“And then I would take a young guy and I would put Lando in the car. Yeah, Fernando and Lando.”

Norris made his F1 debut in 2019 with McLaren, replacing Alonso who opted to depart the F1 grid for a handful of years before returning in 2021.

Verstappen was also asked to select a dream team boss to run the outfit – with no surprise coming from his answer.

“Well, of the current people who are capable of being the Team Principal, I would also go for Christian [Horner].”

Horner currently runs the Red Bull Racing squad and has done since the team arrived on the grid in the early 2000s.
