F1 Academy and Disney+ have revealed a brand new documentary special, offering fans a special look behind the scenes of the series.
Last year, F1: The Academy premiered on Netflix, giving fans a seven-episode look into F1 Academy race weekends and the drivers’ lives away from the track. Following the success of the series, a new documentary titled The Pursuit: F1 ACADEMY will debut exclusively on Disney+ globally on November 19, ahead of the season finale at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Produced in association with ESPN, the documentary will provide insight into the 2025 season. Following last year’s championship top four. Including the likes of Dorianne Pin, Maya Weug, Chloe Chambers and Alisha Palmowski. Focusing on their progress throughout the season as they navigated the challenges associated with F1 Academy.
The documentary will explore the pressures of competing on the global stage, highlighting the personal sacrifices, setbacks and successes that aren’t often portrayed. Filmed across various locations on the 2025 F1 Academy calendar, the special will capture the intensity of race weekends alongside the drivers’ lives away from the track, offering fans a deeper understanding of the determination required to reach the top.
Whilst focusing on the drivers, the documentary will feature insight from the series’ Managing Director, Susie Wolff. Highlighting the unseen sides of motorsport for young girls on the path to Formula 1.
Inspiring the next generation of Female Racers
Susie Wolff spoke about the importance of sharing the drivers’ stories. The former racer explained the realities of pursuing a career in motorsport and the challenges that come with competing at the highest level.
“Every driver on the F1 ACADEMY grid is pursuing a dream, and this special will capture the reality of that journey, the sacrifices, setbacks and success that happen both on and off the track,” Wolff said.
“Together with Disney+, we can share those stories on a global stage, and we hope they resonate far beyond motorsport and inspire young women to pursue their ambitions fearlessly, no matter the odds.”
The documentary will also mark another step in the growing partnership between Disney, Formula 1 and F1 Academy, with the collaboration aiming to promote confidence, representation and greater opportunities for women in racing.
Joss Hastings, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Disney Consumer Products, expressed excitement about extending the partnership into documentary storytelling. Emphasising the importance of sharing the drivers’ journeys with audiences worldwide.
“What started with Mickey & Friends and Formula 1 has grown into F1 ACADEMY with Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck, and we’re thrilled to extend our partnership to Disney+ and ESPN with The Pursuit: F1 ACADEMY,” Hastings said.
“Our ambition is to ‘Fuel the Magic’ for Disney and F1 fans through products, experiences and storytelling, and this is an exciting way to share the courage, ambition and heart of these drivers while inspiring the next generation of women in motorsport.”
