Chip Ganassi Racing has signed Christian Lundgaard to a multi-year deal to drive the #9 entry starting in 2027.
Lundgaard will be taking over the entry, along with the iconic PNC Bank sponsorship, that Scott Dixon piloted for 25 years.
The announcement confirms what is essentially a swap of the two drivers, with Dixon and Lundgaard trading their seats at Arrow McLaren and Chip Ganassi Racing.
The Danish driver earned two wins and seven podiums this past year while piloting the #7 entry, and finished third in the overall points standings.
His results, which have been improving steadily each of the five years he’s been in the series, were enough to convince the team that he was the best driver to fill the big hole left with Dixon’s departure.
“We are excited to welcome Christian to Chip Ganassi Racing,” said team owner Chip Ganassi.
“We know he’s capable of accomplishing even more in the NTT IndyCar Series, and we’re looking forward to helping him reach that next level with the No. 9 team.
“He’s already proven he can win races, and it isn’t often a driver of his caliber becomes available.
“Throughout our history, one of the things we’ve done best is identify young talent, help them maximize their potential, and develop them into championship contenders. We believe Christian has all the talent to be the next driver to do that.”
Lundgaard did not seem worried after he learned Arrow McLaren was releasing him earlier in the year, and put in his best stretch of results as he was talking through options at other teams.
He now moves into an organization that has won seven of the last nine championships and has one of the most stable programs in the series.
Lundgaard joins five-time champion Alex Palou and Kyffin Simpson at CGR for next season, giving the team a potential powerhouse line-up.
