Chip Ganassi Racing has revealed a stunning livery for Alex Palou at the upcoming 2026 IndyCar season finale.
Set to take the to track at Laguna Seca, the special design calls back to the team’s history with legendary driver Alex Zanardi.
Zanardi won two consecutive championships in 1997 and 1998 with what became an iconic lightning bolt livery on his car.
Palou’s car for this year’s race at Laguna Seca will have a modern version of that livery when he is likely to officially be awarded his fifth series championship.
Zanardi, who suffered a horrific accident in 2001 that required amputation of both legs, remained a competitor and racer through his injuries until his passing in May of this year.
“I’m so excited to get the lightning bolt back on our car,” said Palou. “We’re racing in memory of Alex Zanardi. We’re racing at Laguna, his place, his corner. And on top of that, it’s the 30th anniversary of CGR’s and Honda’s first IndyCar championship.
“So, we’re putting everything together for the fans, for ourselves as well. And hopefully it’s a great race for the No. 10 DHL car.”
The upcoming race weekend will be the 30th anniversary of Zanardi’s famous pass at the corkscrew that helped secure him the race win and the Rookie of the Year award.
Fans have held a high opinion of Zanardi’s classic livery in the time since he was running it on track, and will likely be thrilled to see it back on track next weekend.
A nice detail is that the #10 will officially be named the ‘DHL Lightning Bolt Honda’ on the entry sheet for the event.
The car will break cover during practice on Friday, September 3, and will compete in the 2026 season finale on Sunday, September 5.
