Ash Sutton took another victory in the British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton‘s Race 2, as he gets closer to a record-breaking title victory.

Aiden Moffat’s Audi struggled off the line for the formation lap, and found itself starting from the back of the grid as a result.

However, up front, it was Josh Cook who held the lead through the opening complex. Ash Sutton challenged him hard, which opened the door for Dan Rowbottom behind, but those places remained as Tom Ingram climbed up to P4.

At the run to the chicane, Sutton slipped by Cook as the Corolla strayed slightly wide on exit. Through the next lap, he managed to extend his lead to over a second, with Rowbottom and Ingram tight to Cook.

Moffat’s nightmare Race 2 continued with a slip off into the grass and further away from the rest of the field. Though, at the front, James Dorlin fought hard against Adam Morgan and Dan Cammish – who had slipped by Morgan at the chicane.

Ingram continued his trend of charging hard after opening lap disappointment at Race 1 by dispossessing Rowbottom of P3 on lap 5.

A mistake by Adam Morgan at Church saw Dorlin continue his hard-charging and have a free run at P6, with Morgan continuing behind.

Two laps after losing P3, Rowbottom fell one further as Cammish completed a fine move through the chicane.

Over the next handful of laps, little action was seen on tracks as tyres grew old. But, Sutton was being chased hard by Cook and Ingram, with the Team VERTU man trying to get by the Race 1 winner.

The pair continued battling towards the chicane on lap 12, before contact saw them both save nasty snaps and Ingram go through via cutting the corner.

Cook could have fallen further as Cammish momentarily took P3, but a small cut of the exit apex of lap 13’s chicane saw the Corolla retain its position.

On the final lap, the stewards awarded a 10-second time penalty to Ingram for track limits – seeing him lose his P2. With officials also set to investigate Sutton’s start procedure, the victory could still go the way of Cook.

However, at the line, it was Sutton’s Ford Focus that took the victory. Cook and Cammish rounded out the podium, with Rowbottom and Ingram completing the top five.

Dorlin finished P6 for an Independents’ victory for Restart Racing, followed by Morgan, Mikey Doble, Árón Taylor-Smith, and Gordon Shedden finalising the best ten.

Rounding out the points were Ricky Collard, Tom Chilton, Daryl De Leon, Charles Rainford, and Senna Proctor.
