Aston Martin Formula 1 Team Principal and Chief Technical Partner has responded to rumours that Christian Horner is set to join the team.
Horner has been out of F1 since his sensational firing by Red Bull midway through the 2025 season, marking the end of a 20 year tenure at the Milton Keynes marque.
The Briton has kept a low profile since his departure, though rumours of a return to the paddock have persisted since, with multiple teams supposedly engaged.
A simple Team Principal role is not an avenue Horner is actively pursuing, with similar levels of ownership to that of Red Bull the ideal target.
This has led to speculation that Aston Martin could be his final destination, a reunion with Newey solving multiple parts of a puzzle.
Newey is said to want to relinquish his role as Team Principal, with Jonathan Wheatley lined up to replace him before this deal went quiet, leading to Aston Martin to release a statement confirming Newey would remain in post.
But speculation continues to link Horner to Aston Martin, with Newey tacking the subject head-on at the Hungarian Grand Prix Team Principal’s Press Conference,
“Yes, I keep hearing about these rumours with Christian,”he said.
“I can’t comment further. I don’t really know anything about that. All I can say is that we’re very happy with our senior management team. And we may do some minor tweaks, but the personnel we have at Aston Martin, we are very happy with.”

Asked specifically about the Aston Martin speculation, Horner told Sky Sports at the British GP: “I’ve enjoyed my time out, “I did 20 years straight with Red Bull guys. I was obviously doing other stuff before that, so it’s the first time I’ve ever had a bit of time to get off the hamster wheel.
“But for me, I’d only look at doing the right thing, something that really had an opportunity to win at the end of the day.”
“It’s a great British brand. It’s sad to see them really struggling as they are.
“But there’s so much speculation. One week it’s Aston, the next is Alpine, the next is somewhere else.”
Another avenue Horner is said to be exploring is to create a 12th F1 team with Chinese car giant BYD, allowing the ownership element that underpins his desire to return. The Briton was coy on this particular subject.
“There’s just so much interest in Formula 1. BYD are a huge entity and a huge company,” he said.
“There’s so much speculation. I think I’ve been going to every team on the grid so far. I’m just here to enjoy the race. I’m here as a fan today.”
Horner is likely to be the subject of intense scrutiny while his future remains uncertain. While no news is coming out of any camp officially, a return to the F1 paddock will undoubtedly remain Horner’s primary target.
