Heavy rain has postponed IndyCar’s Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Superspeedway.
The race was set to take place just after the conclusion of the World Cup final on Sunday afternoon, but lighting in the area forced teams back to the garage.
Later in the evening, heavy rain moved through and completely washed out the track.
Facing a prospect of the lengthy race running well into the morning hours even with an optimistic outlook, the series opted to postpone the event a full day.
IndyCar has not had a reason to push a race to the next day for multiple years. In other cases, races have been able to be completed later in the day if weather affected the schedule.
The race distance has also been shortened from 300 laps to 225 on account of extreme heat and humidity forecast for Monday.
The race is now scheduled for 2:00 PM central time, a couple hours earlier in the day than today’s original schedule.
There will not be any warm-up session allowed, meaning drivers will take to a very green track for the first time as the green flag flies.
