IndyCar stalwart Scott Dixon will race with a different team in 2027, his first move in more than 20 years.
Dixon will move on from Chip Ganassi Racing next season, ending his lengthy association with CGR.
Rumors had been swirling for a couple weeks, but the news was confirmed when team owner Chip Ganassi released a statement on Thursday.
“Scott Dixon recently informed the team that he will not be returning in 2027,” read the statement.
“Scott has meant so much to CGR over the past 24 years. Together we’ve shared championships, many victories, and countless moments that have helped define this organization.
“Because of everything we’ve accomplished together, and the legacy Scott has built here, we believed it was important to give him the opportunity to finish his career at Chip Ganassi Racing, and we made him a multi-year offer to do just that.
“We respect that he’s chosen a different path and wish him nothing by continued success. Scott will always be a special part of this team’s history, and we’re grateful for everything we’ve accomplished together.
“Our focus now is on finishing this season strong with the #9 PNC team while also preparing for the future at Chip Ganassi Racing.”
Dixon first raced for CGR in 2002, joining the team midway through its final season in the CART championship.
The New-Zealand native followed the team to IndyCar in 2003, and proceeded to win the first race of the year before going on to win the championship as well.
That relationship has been in place ever since, with six championships and 58 victories won over nearly 25 years.
There is no confirmation of where the 45-year-old will drive next season, though a move to Arrow McLaren is thought to be possible.
