Tom Ingram chipped away at the gap in the British Touring Car Championship with a solid weekend at Oulton Park, picking up a hat-trick of podiums.
The defending Drivers’ Champion had his most consistent weekend of the season, after seeing signs of encouragement on Saturday,
The season-long goal for the Team VERTU man is always going to be chasing down the dominant Ash Sutton, hunting for his record-breaking fifth title. Ingram, however, has a title to defend.
“I think we’ve got as much out of the weekend as I think we could have done really.
“The goal was always to come into this weekend and try to extract as many points as we could with a slightly unfavourable TTB.
“I don’t think, other than maybe a slightly better qualifying, I don’t think we could really have asked for much more to be honest, so I feel very chuffed.
“The aim was to get it [Drivers’ Championship points deficit to Sutton] sort of into the 40s coming out after this weekend.
“You know, if we can keep doing sort of 15, 10 points a round, then it’s definitely doable. It’s still a tough order, but if we can drag it into the 40s and keep it going down that way, that would be fantastic.”

Tom Ingram: Team VERTU will be ‘even stronger’ after summer break
Team VERTU have seen a mixed bag of results through the first stage of 2026.
Although, the same could be said of NAPA Racing, where only Sutton has placed consistently. It is this consistency that places Ingram well behind in the title fight.
While Ingram and Ricky Collard have scored successful results, the other two green Hyundais are yet to pick up major accolades – aside from Nic Hamilton’s excellent Snetterton.
“I think we’ve ended the first half of the season really good. You kind of want to go into the back end of the season in a strong position, which is exactly what we’ve done.
“So, yeah, eyes forward, we’ll have a nice few days off, nice few days, play about in the water and then come back fighting at Thruxton.
“I think we’ve got a few bits and pieces that we’re really keen to get going with the car that we’ve not quite had a chance to do.
“So I’m looking forward to what we can do in the second half of the season. I think we should be even stronger.”
