Dan Cammish started his Sunday strong with victory at Oulton Park, securing his first British Touring Car Championship victory of 2026.
The BTCC had the rare opportunity to head out first on Sunday, owing to Oulton Park’s strict time restrictions. A brief, heavy rainfall did greet the track in the morning, but the circuit was dry enough for slick tyres and little noticeable damp.
Dan Cammish, having won the Race to Pole after a five-second penalty to Aron Taylor-Smith, led the field away to Old Hall in his NAPA Racing Ford Focus.
Teammate Ash Sutton immediately got into a battle with the Speedworks Corolla of Josh Cook, and was sent into a sideways drift after the Corolla oversteered into his bumper. Despite saving it, he would fall down to P8.
Adam Morgan was the best gainer at the front after one lap of running at his home circuit, with the Plato Racing Mercedes moving up to P5.
Sutton would gain one of his positions back a lap later, diving down the inside of Mikey Doble at Old Hall. Before also jumping ahead of Aiden Moffat’s Audi.
Lewis Selby found the barriers at entry to Lodge on the third lap, but could recover despite causing a safety car. The NAPA Ford had a significant closing speed to the car ahead and had to dash into the grass to avoid contact, although the slick surface was not so selfless.
Due to the caution, the race was adjusted to 16 laps, and Cammish led the field away as the race resumed on lap five.
Sutton tried to continue his charge by sending his Ford around the outside of Morgan at Hislops, but contact with the Mercedes forced him into the grass. He would fall back down to P8, once again able to continue.
Despite the start threatening to continue the mania of Saturday’s Race to Pole, the running calmed as Camish, Cook, and Tom Ingram battled for the lead a few seconds ahead of Taylor-Smith and the chasing pack.
Moffat started to climb through, getting ahead of his teammate before dispatching Morgan. The battle for P5 had allowed Taylor-Smith to break away ahead, while bunching up a pack that stretched down to P12.
Unfortunately for Morgan, he pulled into the pits with an issue and retired from the running, casting a visibly frustrated figure in his cockpit.
Daryl De Leon and Gordon Shedden were both having strong races away from the limelight, with the BMW climbing to P10 and Corolla up to P12 with five laps to go.
Tom Chilton managed to get by Chris Smiley for P8 on lap 13, with Smiley falling further as De Leon managed to get by around the outside at the Island Bend.
With three to go, Cammish had managed to extend his lead to over a second, while Cook behind was under constant pressure from Ingram.
Meanwhile, Doble, Sutton, and Chilton were engaging in a hefty battle for P6. Frustratingly for the Drivers’ Championship leader, Doble’s defence proved too strong to climb beyond his spot.
At the flag, it was Cammish who backed up his Saturday performance with a convincing victory. Cook and Ingram followed, with Taylor-Smith and Moffat rounding out the top five.
The result for Taylor-Smith and Laser Tools with MB Motorsport crowned them the Independent victors of Race 1.
Doble and Sutton followed, with the result confirming that the NAPA man will still be the Drivers’ Championship leader at the end of the weekend.
Chilton, Smiley, and De Leon rounded out the top 10. Dexter Patterson, Shedden, Sam Osborne, Ricky Collard, and Charles Rainford were the final points scorers.
Max Buxton, having missed Saturday with a viral infection, finished P18.
