Dan Cammish inherited British Touring Car Championship Race to Pole victory at Oulton Park, benefitting from a penalty handed to timesheet-topping Árón Taylor-Smith.
The NAPA Racing UK driver enjoyed a solid drive from second on the grid, defending from fastest lap-setting Josh Cook to keep himself in contention.
Taylor-Smith would take the chequered flag first, but a five-second time penalty for a restart infringement saw Cammish inherit victory, ahead of Josh Cook and Ash Sutton.
The Irishman was the fastest in timed qualifying by some way, having topped the charts in his Group 2 session.
Árón Taylor-Smith tops the charts in timed qualifying
The sun broke through the clouds as timed qualifying started at Oulton Park. Unlike Sunday at Brands Hatch, where rain appeared as soon as sessions begun, the clouds were being kind on the BTCC.
Group 1 housed a star-studded lineup that included Tom Ingram, Ash Sutton, Ricky Collard, and Free Practice chart-topper Aiden Moffat.
Yet, it was none of those who topped the charts. Dan Cammish went fastest at the flag with a 1:24.222 to dethrone Josh Cook at the top by less than a tenth.
Sutton followed behind after struggling through the session, with Ingram P4 in the group and Moffat P5. Gordon Shedden, Dan Rowbottom, and Chris Smiley both notched times in the 1:24.9s.
Lewis Selby followed, with Collard off the pace at the back of his group. The Team VERTU man slid into the grass at Cascades midway through the session, and struggled to recover a quick lap from there.
Group 2 included some of the BTCC’s 2026 star stories. Árón Taylor-Smith, Nic Hamilton, Mikey Doble, Daryl De Leon, and Charles Rainford all featured, joined by Tom Chilton, Adam Morgan, Dexter Patterson, and James Dorlin.
Taylor-Smith notched the best lap of qualifying entirely with a 1:24.213 with five minutes to go of his group, four tenths clear of the rest. Having broken his 10-year win drought at Brands Hatch, could the MB Motorsport man step towards breaking an 11-year pole-less spell here?
He could! Despite late pressure from Doble’s 1:24.326, the Irishman stayed clear of the latter’s Audi, plus late laps from Chilton and Morgan.
Osborne and Dorlin followed behind, with the latter the last driver of the group to manage a sub-1:25s lap, with Rainford, De Leon, and Hamilton rounding it out.

Taylor-Smith led away off the line, while Cook pipped Doble for P3 through Cascades. Chilton slipped into the slick grass at entry of Island Bend and found himself stranded at the back of the pack, after contact with Morgan.
Equally unfortunate was Shedden, who had to peel into the pit with damage and subsequently retire from the race. Later replays would reveal a poor lunge from Smiley at Hislops was the cause.
Sutton and Ingram fought hard at Lodge, but Sutton could just about deny his title rival from getting by around the outside. The Island Bend hairpin struck once more with Hamilton losing his Hyundai under braking and suffering a firm hit into the armco.
Hamilton’s misfortune brought out the safety car, with his Team VERTU motor unable to continue.
The Qualifying Race would remain under caution until the start of the sixth lap, with Taylor-Smith once again leading the field away to Old Hall – and the race being extended to 13 laps.
However, the Laser Tools MB Motorsport man was given a five-second time penalty for weaving during the restart, effectively promoting Cammish to the lead, with Cook and Sutton behind.
The same lap, Sutton completed a good move on Doble to move to P4 – driving around the outside at Island Bend and outpacing the Audi to Hislops. Doble fell one further as Ingram would pip him.
Cook and Sutton then engaged in a feisty battle, with the Toyota just holding on to its P3 despite contact between the pair.
Contact between Sutton and Ingram at Lodge saw the former nudged wide on outside exit, before Osborne had a massive scare across the inside grass at Cascades – fortunately avoiding the two Restart Racing cars on rejoin.
The drama between the two main title challengers saw the top three of Taylor-Smith, Cammish, and Cook break away by over three seconds with three to go. Any more battling could see Taylor-Smith hold a podium, but he only looked likely for P5 in the moment due to his penalty.
The order would remain for the rest of the Race to Pole, with Cammish taking victory ahead of Cook and Sutton. Ingram followed behind, with Taylor-Smith, Doble, Morgan, Patterson, Moffat, and Chris Smiley rounding out the top 10.
Dorlin finished P11, while Chilton and Collard both gained places after a poor start and poor qualifying respectively.
Rainford followed behind after a quiet race, with the same said for Selby, De Leon, and Rowbottom.
Osborne rounded out the finishers in P18, with Hamilton and Shedden having retired.
