Aiden Moffat is hopeful for the weekend in the British Touring Car Championship, after he convincingly topped the charts at Oulton Park in Free Practice.
Moffat posted a 1:24.213 late-on to beat the pack around the Cheshire-based track. Teammate Mikey Doble also managed P4, marking a promising start to the weekend for the LKQ Power Maxed cars.
The Audi pace was evident throughout the session, with Moffat and Doble both towards the top of the charts throughout.
“The car felt really good,” Moffat told BTCC media.
“We changed a couple of things, done a couple of things that we wanted to try and they seem to be working well.
“Obviously it was a very green track this morning, it’s going to get rubbered in as the day goes on, as long as it doesn’t rain, so things will change a lot.
“But it was a very promising way to start and the car feels in a very good position, so we’ll hopefully go to work on from here and try and keep pushing.”
Because of the early-season form showed by his team, a lack of TOCA Turbo Boost hampered performance at Brands Hatch and Snetterton.
However, Moffat believes running will be far more enjoyable: “It’s the first time since Donington we’ll be able to give it a real go.”
Aiden Moffat hopes Oulton Park weather stays grey
Saturday started with a strong downpour of rain at Oulton Park, but disappeared in time for BTCC running.
However, forecasts predict it will play a part in the event between qualifying and the three races on Sunday.
Moffat hopes it will, saying: “I think we’ll just watch the sky to be honest with you and take it from there.
“Personally I like it when those are the conditions, it was the same at Brands Hatch Indy Race 2 when we managed to get to the battle for second from 17th, but the red flag put us back a lap.
“I think it’s a great equaliser and I enjoy it personally, so fingers crossed tomorrow’s full of weather like that.”
