Marc Marquez made his best start to a weekend in almost a year by setting the fastest time of the opening Hungarian MotoGP practice session.
On his second weekend back after returning from a shoulder operation, Marquez ended the first session at Balaton Park in top spot.
The Spanish rider was consistently fast, but posted a 1:38.626s to set the fastest time and finish the session as the fastest rider.
By finishing the session on top, it marked the first time that Marquez set the pace in an FP1 session since the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, almost one year ago.
Raul Fernandez was second, while Pedro Acosta led the majority of the session and finished third.
Fermin Aldeguer was fourth at the flag as Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the top five ahead of Francesco Bagnaia.
Ai Ogura was seventh as both Trackhouse Aprilias outpaced the factory team, with Luca Marini in eighth ahead of Marco Bezzecchi in ninth.
Toprak Razgatlioglu rounded out the top 10 in his first visit to the track as a MotoGP rider, while Fabio Quartararo slotted in just behind in 11th.
Jorge Martin was the slowest of the Aprilia riders but still took 12th, as Diogo Moreira was the final rider within a second of Marquez’s best time of the session.
Maverick Vinales posted his best session since his injury return in 14th ahead of Joan Mir in 15th and Franco Morbidelli in 16th.
Brad Binder was 17th at the end of the session, with Enea Bastianini 18th and Jack Miller in 19th.
Alex Rins finished the session in 20th, as Iker Lecuona began his stand-in duties with the Gresini team in 21st.
Cal Crutchlow returned to stand-in duties with LCR Honda and completed the standings in 22nd.
