Yamaha has selected David Munoz, currently Alex Rins’ crew chief, to work alongside Jorge Martin for the 2027 MotoGP season.
As most of the MotoGP rider market has settled for 2027, several teams have turned to finalising their technical structures.
One of the most notable moves ahead of the new regulations cycle will see Martin join the factory Yamaha squad, where he will partner Ai Ogura.
The Spaniard made his premier class debut in 2021 with Pramac Ducati and remained with the Italian outfit until claiming the 2024 MotoGP world title, before moving to Aprilia.
After two seasons with the Noale-based factory, Martin will join Yamaha on a multi-year deal for the new rule change.
According to reports from Motorsport.com, Yamaha has chosen Munoz to lead Martin’s side of the garage and accelerate the current championship leader’s adaptation to the M1.
Munoz, who currently works with Rins, joined Yamaha’s factory team in 2020 after being personally selected by Valentino Rossi to replace his long-time crew chief Silvano Galbusera.
Martin will also bring his trusted chief mechanic, David Galacho, known in the paddock as “Malaguita”, having already taken him from Pramac to Aprilia.
On the other side of the Yamaha garage, it is expected that Ogura will inherit Diego Gubellini, who has been Fabio Quartararo’s crew chief.
Several other technical reshuffles have already been confirmed including Pedro Acosta’s move to Ducati, where he will work with Cristian Gabarrini – despite the Italian previously being rumoured to move with Francesco Bagnaia to Aprilia.
At Gresini, Joan Mir is set to reunite with Frankie Carchedi, the crew chief who helped him to the 2020 MotoGP title at Suzuki.
It is expected that Donatello Giovanotti will work with rookie Daniel Holgado following Alex Marquez’s departure to KTM.
It is still who will be in KTM’s technical lineups for both Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
