Charles Leclerc admitted that other Formula 1 teams sounded him out for a potential switch from Ferrari, before committing to a long-term deal with the Scuderia.
The Monegasque driver has been with Ferrari since 2019, having already been part of its academy, and has become woven into the famous team’s history.
Despite being yet to win the World Championship, Leclerc’s longevity as a Ferrari driver has secured his place in Maranello folklore, and his previous outspoken love for the team saw him opt to committing with a multi-year deal.
Talent of his calibre would doubtlessly see him attract interest from the Italian squad’s rivals, and when asked if there were other options available to him, Leclerc was inhesitating in his confirmation.
“There were, yes,” he told media, including Motorsport Week, ahead of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix – his home race.

When asked which teams had been in contact, Leclerc replied: “No, I’m not going to say who. But they can say it if they want, but for me Ferrari was always the choice.”
Having topped FP1 in front of his home fans, Leclerc will be hoping to celebrate that new contract with a second victory around the famous principality circuit.
