Dries Vanthoor topped the timesheets for BMW and WRT in the third and final practice session before the IMSA Detroit Sports Car Classic, with the Belgian setting a 1:06.950 to quickest.
His lap, onboard the #24 BMW M Hybrid V8, was almost two and a half tenths faster than Jordan Taylor in the #40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac.
Third fastest was Felipe Nasr in the #7 Porsche, 0.431 adrift of D. Vanthoor.
Fourth was the pacesetter’s older brother, Laurens Vanthoor, in the #6 Porsche. This car will start from the back of the GTP field after L. Vanthoor’s teammate Kevin Estre caused a red flag in the closing minutes of qualifying yesterday.
Meanwhile, making the top 5 a two-family affair (almost), Jordan Taylor’s brother Ricky Taylor was fifth fastest in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac.
Over in GTD Pro, Andrea Caldarelli was quickest in the #9 Pfaff Lamborghini, with a 1:10.536. Second, just over 2 tenths away was Jack Hawksworth in the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus. Third was Antonio Garcia in the #3 Pratt Miller Corvette, another two tenths adrift. This car will be started on class pole by qualifying driver Alexander Sims.
Chris Mies was fourth in the #65 Ford Mustang, while Dennis Olsen was fifth in the sister #64 Ford.
The race begins at 4pm ET local time in Detroit, or 9pm BST in the UK. You can see the full third practice results on IMSA’s website.
