Abel Motorsports has announced that it will return for a second attempt at the Indianapolis 500, with Jacob Abel behind the wheel.
Abel contested the full 2025 IndyCar season with Dale Coyne Racing, but did not actually race in the Indy 500 due to being the only driver bumped out of the 33-car field in qualifying.
His qualifying pace was not up to task, and he did not get a chance to race in his special Miller Lite livery that was unveiled a couple weeks before the event.
Abel does not have a full time IndyCar ride this year, and has been filling his time racing in IMSA and the Asian Le Mans Series.
The 25-year-old will return to open wheel action this May, driving with a Chevrolet power plant for the first time.
“I am excited and grateful to be able to return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to have a shot at the Indianapolis 500,” said Abel.
“It’s been a lifelong dream to compete in that race and to have the opportunity to do it with Abel Motorsports and Chevrolet makes it even more special.
“The Indianapolis 500 is the greatest race in the world and the teams that compete reflect that. Having won races and competed for championships with Abel Motorsports over my whole career, I am very confident in the program that they put together.”
Abel Motorsports is also returning for its second Indy 500 attempt, having fielded a single car effort with RC Enerson behind the wheel in 2023.
Enerson qualified 28th and finished 32nd that year, marks that the team hopes it can improve upon this year with Abel at the helm.
The first official practice session for the 110th Indianapolis 500 takes place Tuesday, May 12.
