A slightly modified format was in play for IndyCar’s Long Beach qualifying session, with the top six drivers choosing their own order for the push for pole in the final round.
Felix Rosenqvist was the best of the best when it counted, setting a lap of 1:07.4635 and earning his seventh IndyCar pole.
With a very similar run that was ultimately 0.044 seconds too slow, Pato O’Ward turned his Long Beach fortunes around by earning a spot on the front row in his Arrow McLaren Chevy.

All three Chip Ganassi Racing cars advanced into the Top 12, with Scott Dixon earning the sixth grid position and Kyffin Simpson starting ninth.
Marcus Armstrong narrowly missed out on advancing to the second round, crossing the timing line just 0.003 seconds below the cut to lock in the 13th starting position.
Sunday’s race is scheduled for 2:30 PM Pacific Time, when 90 laps around the seaside streets are on the schedule.
