Fernando Alonso has shared a heartwarming update on the birth of his first child, revealing Formula 1 has already given him the “first of many” paddock passes.
The Spaniard excused himself from media duties ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, as rumoured swirled that his partner, DAZN presenter Melissa Jiminez, was close to giving birth.
And after arriving at the Suzuka circuit the next day, the two-time World Champion confirmed the news to the same broadcaster, saying that “both the mother and the baby are fine”.
And with Alonso having completed his first full race distance in Japan, there appears to be confirmation the whole family will be present at the next race in Miami.
Taking to his Instagram account, Alonso put on his story a photo of the back side of a paddock pass, bearing the name Leonard Alonso Jiminez.
This was accompanied by the words: “Welcome to the F1 Family” above it.
