A Toleman from the maiden Formula 1 season of legendary three-time world champion Ayrton Senna is to be sold at auction for an eye-watering price.
Senna is widely considered one of the sport’s all-time greatest drivers, winning three driver’s championships during his F1 tenure between 1984 and 1994.
Although tragically killed at the 1994 San Marino GP, his legacy continues to reverberate 32 years after his death, his achievements immortalised in F1 lore.
His record is one of F1’s finest, with 41 wins and 65 pole positions from 161 Grand Prix starts, including a first-lap masterclass in the wet at Donington in 1993.
Now, one lucky buyer has the chance to own a piece of F1 history, a car from his maiden season in 1984, the car that started his revered career.

A piece of Ayrton Senna history
Toleman was a small, independent outfit gracing the grid, but rose to dramatic prominence during Senna’s sole year with the team.
Scoring his first points in South Africa and Belgium, he took a shock podium at Monaco, being in contention for victory until the race was red flagged due to extreme weather.
Leaving the team that would become Benetton and Alpine, the Toleman is now synonymous with launching the career of the legendary Brazilian.
RM Sotheby’s will auction the TG183B, chassis No.5, on April 25th, the chassis Senna contested the opening four races, including achieving his two sixth place finishes.
This specific car has been used at demonstration runs in recent seasons, including Martin Brundle and Pierre Gasly.
The historical significance of this car is underscored by its guide price of €2.8m-€3.8m.
Whoever ends up owning this piece of history will buy into a period of F1 that fans love to reminisce, as well as one of arguably one of the sport’s most important cars.
