Fernando Alonso has arrived in Suzuka for this weekend’s Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix with confirmation that he and his partner have become parents.
The Spaniard was confirmed to be missing F1’s media day on Thursday at the Suzuka circuit, for “personal family reasons,” as well as his pre-planned absence from FP1, with Jak Crawford taking the reigns of his Aston Martin AMR26.
Speculation was rife that the 44-year-old was welcoming his first child, with Franco Colapinto inadvertently letting the news slip in an interview.
But the two-time World Champion confirmed the news himself in a paddock interview with DAZN.
“A little stress and worry, everything turned out well, with both the Mum and the baby.”
Alonso added that he was “very happy, a super happy moment, very special.”
