Sergio Perez has set the summer break as a milestone for Cadillac to significantly improve its results after an expectedly modest beginning to its Formula 1 journey.

The American squad, after years of persistence in its bid to reach the grid, is one of two new teams this year.

But compared to its fellow debutant bedfellows Audi, it is starting completely from scratch, the German outfit already having a platform through the Sauber team that it purchased.

Nonetheless, vigorous preparations were put in place to make sure it was as race-ready as it could be for last week’s season-opener in Australia, with Perez managing to make it to the chequered flag, with teammate and fellow veteran Valtteri Bottas retiring early on.

As expected, the Silverstone-based outfit is battling for positions at the foot of the grid, but Perez believes that it can, via some quick adaptations to its MAC-26, climb the mountain and up towards the right end of the grid.

“I hope by summer break, we’ve been able to score a few points already,” the Mexican surmised to media including Motorsport Week.

“It’s obviously a big task, with the gap that we currently have. But, like I say, you know this team, it’s new, but it’s very different to all the other new teams that have come to the sport.”

One of Cadillac’s first tasks is to ensure that its cars begin to stop shedding bodywork like a dog shedding hair, as the Melbourne and Shanghai Sprint races saw bits and pieces freeing themselves whilst on track.

But the experience of its backroom team, and its drivers, ensures a good and strong platform to keep improving, and with the ever-changing landscape from the new ruleset, Cadillac has every chance of, at the very least, positioning itself well for a competitive 2027.
