Max Verstappen has landed a new jibe at the new Formula 1 regulations change, saying that he thinks “we need to” change the ruleset.
The Dutchman has been a consistently vocal opponent to the new era of the sport, likening to “Formula E on steroids” during pre-season testing in Bahrain recently.
And since then, there has been little indication that Verstappen’s stance has softened.
The four-time World Champion’s mood would not have been helped by spinning out of Q1 in qualifying for the opening round in Melbourne this weekend.
An axle problem caused the Red Bull to lock up, sending him skidding into the barriers, condemning him to a 20th-place start for Sunday’s Grand Prix.

Speaking after qualifying, Verstappen appeared at a loss to further articulate his displeasure at the new regulations.
“I don’t know. There’s so many things that that we need to look at, I think, in general, as a sport. So yeah, what can I say?” he told media, including Motorsport Week.
Verstappen added that at Friday’s driver’s briefing, he had spoken up about the regulations, saying that the onboard footage should be sufficient proof that the new cars’ necessary harvesting of energy is sucking the fun out of driving.
“I said how I thought about it. I mean, I’m definitely not having fun at all with these cars. I don’t know. You can make up your mind, but I think if you look at the onboard, you see enough, right?
“There’s nothing that you can do. You can only make it slower, and then, of course, you get a bit more of a normal speed race, but it’s a slower speed race.
“The formula is just not correct, and that is something that is a bit harder to change, but I think we need to.”
