Formula 1 is back, and honestly, 2026 might be the most exciting season in a long time.

New regulations, a brand-new team on the grid, and a few familiar names returning after spells away from the sport. There is a lot going on. Whether you have followed Formula 1 for years or you are just starting to get into it, here is a straightforward look at who is driving for who this season.

The front-runners

Reigning FIA Formula 1 World Drivers’ Champion Lando Norris lines up again at McLaren alongside Oscar Piastri, and that duo is still the one everyone else in the paddock is measuring themselves against.

Mercedes have George Russell paired with Kimi Antonelli now heading into his second season, and the Silver Arrows are being talked about as genuine title contenders.

Ferrari stayed with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who will be quietly hoping the new rules give him a stronger platform than last year.

If you are based in the US and want to watch the races live, a USA VPN is worth knowing about since it opens up international broadcast options that often carry coverage you simply cannot get on domestic TV.

The midfield pack

This is where it really gets fun. Aston Martin go into the new era with Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, and the freshly appointed Adrian Newey overseeing the technical side, which is a combination that has genuinely turned heads.

Williams roll on with Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, a pairing that quietly turned the team back into a regular points finisher last year. With how dramatically the new regulations have shaken things up, the F1 2026 midfield battle could be tighter than anything we have seen in years.

More teams are in the mix than ever.

The new arrivals

Cadillac are the big story here. The American outfit makes their debut as the eleventh team on the grid, bringing in Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, two drivers who spent 2025 watching from the outside. It gives the new team experience straight away, and both drivers will be hungry to prove they still belong.

Audi, from almost a standing start, has come on leaps and bounds since the Barcelona ‘shakedown week’.

Over at Racing Bulls, Liam Lawson is joined by 18-year-old Arvid Lindblad, the only genuine rookie on the grid this season.

Meanwhile Sauber has officially completed its transformation into Audi, with Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto carrying the German manufacturer’s hopes going forward.

What to watch for going forward

There are compelling storylines from the front of the grid all the way to the back, so this season is going to reward close attention. If you want to understand how each team actually looked before the lights went out in Melbourne, our F1 Testing Debrief breaks down the key takeaways from pre-season, including who looked strong on race runs and who is still searching for answers.

The 2026 grid is deep. Title contenders, comeback stories, a new manufacturer, a rookie, and one of the most experienced drivers in history still chasing glory. It has everything.
