PREMA’s 2026 Formula 2 line-up has revealed what the team’s internal workings are like, just weeks after the Rosin family’s shock exit.
The Italian outfit is one of the best-known junior teams in motorsport. Producing countless elite racing drivers, their hall of fame features the likes of Formula E champion Nyck De Vries and F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, amongst others. The powerhouse team’s consistency proved their adaptability and skill in every series they raced in, particularly in F2.
However, in recent years, the team has struggled to keep up to date in a series it once dominated. After winning three of the first five titles in the newly renamed F2 series, the team struggled to fight competitively at the front. Losing titles to the likes of ART Grand Prix and their newest competitor, Invicta Racing.
The team’s woes continued when there were rumours that PREMA would miss the start of the IndyCar season due to unforeseen circumstances. Former team boss Rene Rosin told the media that they were evaluating different solutions to stay in the series. Shortly after this, it was announced that after over 40 years, the Rosin team would officially leave PREMA Racing.
Since then, the team have consistently been in the headlines, across all their series. With a sense of uncertainity overclouding PREMA’s 2026 season in all categories.
When speaking to the media, including Motorsport Week, new recruit Mari Boya emphasised that despite the noise surrounding the team, he remained focused on the task ahead.
“Together with the team they are also adding extra work and motivation for the year because the goal is still the same,” Boya said.
“And we are more than ready to start the season in Australia”
Has outside noise impacted the PREMA F2 preparations for 2026?
Whilst drivers are gearing up for the season opener in Melbourne, the question remains: has the disrupted off-season impacted the PREMA family? Well, according to their F2 drivers, whilst internal affairs remain positive for the season ahead. Despite what may appear in the media.
Whilst the shock departure happened after PREMA’s driver pairings were confirmed, it critically happened before pre-season testing began.
PREMA veteran Sebastian Montoya, opened up about his and the team’s goals for 2026, remaining the same. Winning the World Champiosnhip in 2026.
“For sure it hasn’t been the easiest to say the least because I would say the situation inside the team is very different to what you guys may know,” Montoya clarified.
“Obviously, it’s not the easiest with the change in management and the Rosin family leaving especially because they have been such a big part of the team for so many years.
But in the end, as I said, the mechanics and the engineers from my side are still the same. We all have the same goals so we are obviously working in the same direction. For sure, it’s a little different, but we want to get to Australia with the same goal as 12 months ago, which is to do the best we can and perform every weekend.”
Boya echoed his team-mate’s sentiment. Stating that the new environment is different, however, the goal is still to perform strongly throughout the season.
“For me, the best adjective I can add is new,” Boya said.
“As there have been some changes, we had to adapt a bit quicker than usual. But we are in a sport where every year things change. And we need to be able to work and maximise ourselves”
The goal is still the same for the team and for us.”
