Liam Lawson has revealed that removing the “toxic place” of social media has improved his quality of life, after being subjected to abuse on different platforms.
The Kiwi is set for his first full season as a Racing Bulls driver in 2025, having completed an inconsistent but otherwise impressive 22 races with the Faenza-based squad last year.
Lawson has been at the coalface of the more difficult aspects of Formula 1, having been ousted by Red Bull after just two rounds in 2025, after being afforded the promotion through two cameo spells with RB over the previous two campaigns.
But a switch back saw some impressive results alongside Isack Hadjar, who was subsequently given the chance Lawson had little time to take – the second seat alongside Max Verstappen.
Lawson appears to be raring to go for 2026, with a renewed sense of confidence, amid Team Principal Alan Permane’s vision for how he will improve this year.

And it appears one early port of call for this positive change has been culling all social media apps, as he explained to the Gypsy Tales podcast.
“It’s so much better. So, so much better,” he said. “It can be such a toxic place. I feel for people. I also left school when I was young, but I feel like I scraped through the age where social media was big.
“In New Zealand at least, Facebook was probably the main one. Instagram was pretty new. I feel like yeah, [New Zealand is] really behind in some ways.
“So good because now bullying in school is something that you can’t escape when you go home because of social media.”
