Mercedes Formula 1 team has confirmed that Andrea Kimi Antonelli was “unhurt” after being involved in a car accident in Italy last weekend.
Antonelli was near his home in San Marino, when the accident in his Mercedes-AMG occurred.
After calling the emergency services, police arrived at the scene, but the Italian escaped any injury.
“We can confirm that Kimi was involved in a traffic accident on Saturday night close to his home in San Marino,” a Mercedes statement read.
“The police attended the scene, after being called by Kimi. His was the only car involved and while his vehicle was damaged, Kimi was completely unhurt.”
The 19-year-old is gearing up for his second season in Formula 1 with the German marque, having taken three podiums in his first campaign last year.
Antonelli will once again be partnered by George Russell at the Brackley-based squad, which enters this week’s first of two pre-season testing schedules in Bahrain as title favourites.
