Mercedes has confirmed its return to exclusively being the official Formula 1 Safety and Medical Car provider at every race in the 2026 season.
The German marque has supplied its cars to the sport as the official Safety Car since 1996, first appearing at that year’s Belgian Grand Prix.
Despite less frequent usage in yesteryear, F1 Safety Cars had been a plethora of different vehicles before Mercedes became the sole provider.
In 2021, F1 announced a new shared deal with Aston Martin, and has alternated with the British automotive giants in that time.

But Aston recently announced a withdrawal from using its cars, leaving Mercedes to formally return as F1’s exclusive user of the vehicle, which has been driven by German Bernd Maylander since 2000.
Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, Christoph Sagemuller, said: “Safety is an absolutely central value of our brand and our products.
“That is why we have been providing the Official FIA F1® Safety and Medical Car in Formula 1® since 1996.
“From the 2026 season onwards, the FIA F1® Official Cars will once again bear the star at all F1® events.
“In this way, we will continue to make an active contribution to safety in the premier class of motorsport.
“For Mercedes-AMG, Formula 1® is not only a sporting platform, but also an environment in which the performance, reliability, and safety of our vehicles become visible under extreme conditions.”
