Riccardo Adami, the race engineer of Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, has been “moved to a new role” within the Scuderia ahead of this year’s Formula 1 World Championship.

The Italian, who has been with the Maranello squad since 2015, and was previously race engineer to Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz, linked up with the seven-time champion ahead of his switch from rivals Mercedes.

But after a poor return of results, the 52-year-old has been moved to a new position as manager of both its Driver Academy and Test Previous Cars programme.

Many fans had observed an apparent series of terse exchanges between Hamilton and Adami, particularly during the early portion of the season.

This led to increasing speculation that there was a less-than-harmonious relationship between the pair, leading to denials from Team Principal Fred Vasseur and Hamilton himself, who dubbed the reports “BS”.

A statement from Ferrari said: “Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that Riccardo Adami has moved to a new role within the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy as Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy and Test Previous Cars Manager, where his extensive trackside experience and Formula 1 expertise contributes to the development of future talent and to strengthening performance culture across the program.

“Scuderia Ferrari HP would like to thank Riccardo for his commitment and contribution to his trackside role and wishes him every success in his new position.

“The appointment of the new Race Engineer for car #44 will be announced in due course.”

Adami had previously been with Red Bull’s satellite squad, then known as Toro Rosso, transitioning from its previous guise as Minardi, where he was race engineer.

It was where he first linked up with Vettel, and duly moved to Ferrari in 2015, the same year the German exited Red Bull for Italy.

Hamilton’s as-of-yet unannounced new race engineer will likely debut in the role at the Circuit de-Barcelona Catalunya on January 26, when Ferrari and its F1 rivals begin the first of three pre-season testing schedules ahead of the new campaign.
