Formula 1 CEO and former Ferrari Team Principal Stefano Domenicali has delivered his verdict on the changes needed at Ferrari to challenge for the titles in 2026.
Ferrari endured an underwhelming 2025 season, as the SF-25’s aerodynamic shortcomings left the team winless for the first time since 2021.
Strategic and communication faux pas dogged the team all season, with blockbuster signing Lewis Hamilton struggling to adapt to life in Maranello and Ferrari’s car philosophy.
Ferrari suffered a disaster in China, as both cars were disqualified for plank wear, exacerbating the internal strife that gripped it in the early races.
Hamilton cut a dejected figure in the second half of the season, as Q1 eliminations became frequent, while Charles Leclerc efforts yielded just seven podiums out of 24 races.
Domenicali, who has direct experience of dealing with issues at F1’s oldest team, believes a plan of action is vital if Ferrari is work its way out of its current nadir situation.
“I’m a positive guy. There’s no need to cry, there’s no need to always be negative. They need to have a plan,” Domenicali told Sky Sports News.
A measured reaction at Ferrari critical to reversing decline
Domenicali believes the team must avoid knee-jerk reactions and be measured in its response to reversing its 2025 season, where it slipped to fourth in the standings.
“I’m sure Fred [Vasseur], Lewis and Charles have a plan and that’s what is important. I think it’s important to react, not to fade away and for it to be normal to be fourth in the championship.
