Romain Grosjean suffered a horror crash in Bahrain in 2020

Romain Grosjean has been reunited with his helmet from the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, the race that almost ended his life in one of Formula 1′s worst crashes.

The French-Swiss driver suffered the horrendous accident on the first lap of the race at Sakhir, his Haas embedding itself under the guardrail, splitting it in two.

A fire immediately engulfed the car, and initially, there was no sign of Grosjean escaping the flaming wreckage.

But eventually, he freed himself from the car, having suffered huge burns to his hands, but mercifully, very little else in the way of injury.

It marked Grosjean’s final appearance in F1, and after being presented with the helmet that helped save him, took to his Instagram to reflect.

“Five years after November 29 2020, I got reunited with my race helmet,” Grosjean wrote.

“I didn’t know if I was ready to see it but my kids really wanted to understand how I got so well protected in the fire and what did happen that night.

“I’ll forever be grateful to Bell and Alpinestars for protecting me so well in that moment.

“Life goes and we forget, but that reminds me how much we should make the most of our lives every day.“
