Long-time Formula 1 race engineer to Max Verstappen, Gianpiero Lambiase will continue in role following coup attempts from Aston Martin and Williams to secure his signature.
Lambiase, known for his radio exchanges with the four-time world champion, has become an integral part of Verstappen’s inner circle at Red Bull.
Working with Verstappen since his race winning debut at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, Lambiase has become integral part of Verstappen’s championship run between 2022 and 2024.
While the likes of former Sporting Director Jonathan Wheatley, Technical Director Adrian Newey and Strategy Chief Will Courtenay have all been lured away by rivals, Lambiase has stayed.
That looked set to change in 2026, with Williams and Aston Martin rumoured to be offering him senior leadership positions to lure him away from Red Bull.
These rumours gained traction on the cooldown lap in Abu Dhabi, when Lambiase said tellingly over the radio: “we showed them one final time who’s boss”.
Gianpiero Lambiase to remain in post
However, as Red Bull and other teams prepare to launch their 2026 challengers, Red Bull looks to have fought off attempts to poach one of their prized resources.
According to De Telegraff, Lambiase’s contract runs until 2027, and will continue in role at Red Bull in 2026 as the team looks to return to title glory.
Maintaining as much of the status quo will be vital to Verstappen and the team as it enters F1’s new technical regulations.
Red Bull will run its own power units in collaboration with Ford in 2026, the American giant returning to F1 after a long absence.
Red Bull and Racing Bulls will launch the liveries for their new challengers in Detroit in the second week of January ahead of the first test in Barcelona on January 26th.
