Standing in the pit lane in Las Vegas on a cold, wet Friday night, I watched Lando Norris ‘steal’ pole position from Max Verstappen.
Despite losing out to his main rival, Max was relaxed and smiling while discussing the lap with his team.
That is when I realised that Max (and I think Max himself did too) that he had a real chance to win this championship.
This was despite the fact that, as recently as Monza, he had been staring down a 104-point deficit to Oscar Piastri, which he would reel in when he won the race the following day.
The fact that Max managed not only to win the final three Grands Prix and come up just two points shy of the title, is nothing short of miraculous.
