Lewis Hamilton’s debut Formula 1 campaign with Ferrari didn’t live up to the expectations that greeted his move to the team, not even close.
With zero Grand Prix podiums across the entire 24-round campaign, Hamilton achieved an unwanted first in his illustrious career, contributing to him ending up a sizeable 76 points behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. But while the results on track outside his Sprint Race win in China didn’t produce the memories that both parties had envisaged, Hamilton’s opening week in Maranello was a groundbreaking moment that will stand the test of time, with or without the record eighth Drivers’ Championship that he is seeking to achieve during his time in red.
The anticipation throughout the winter leading up to his arrival on Italian soil had been palpable, and Hamilton didn’t disappoint.
Dressed in a striped three-piece suit, complete with Louboutin shoes with their distinguishable red soles on show, the Briton posed outside the iconic building where Enzo Ferrari was once housed, accompanied by the F40, his favoured Ferrari supercar, located in the background. The partnership might not have hit the right notes on track, but that shot will remain iconic.
