Aston Martin has accepted responsibility for breaching the Formula 1 cost cap, following a minor procedural misdemeanour during the 2024 season.

The Silverstone-based squad is believed to have signed off an Accepted Breach Agreement, after a necessary signature from obligatory accounts – due on March 31 – was missing.

Aston then re-filed the paperwork accordingly with the right signatures in place, and remained transparent with the FIA throughout the process.

Given that the team fell short of the $135 million threshold, it is believed the sport’s governing body will not impose any financial or sporting penalty.

The FIA’s issuing of compliance certificates has been delayed in being handed out to teams, which initially aroused suspicion that one of the outfits on the grid indeed had broken the rules.

The FIA will apparently be leniant on Aston Martin for its breach of the F1 cost cap

An FIA statement read: “The FIA’s Cost Cap Administration is in the process of finalising the review of the 2024 submissions from Teams and Power Unit Manufacturers, the result of which is expected to be communicated shortly.

“The FIA does not comment on individual submissions made by specific Teams and/or Power Unit Manufacturers and, as per established practice, the results of the review will be made public once assessment of all submissions are completed and finalised.”

With Aston now holding its hands up to its breach, further intrigue is now afoot as rumours are circulating that another team has also breached the cost cap.

However, this alleged breach from an unnamed team is, if confirmed to be true, thought to be of far higher significance, but it is thought that the team in question is vehemently denying the breach and is challenging the judgement, further underlining the FIA’s delay in its conclusions.
