Lewis Hamilton has confirmed his confidence of a competitive race at this weekend’s Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, following a positive day of Friday practice.

Enduring a difficult week following the death of his beloved English Bulldog Roscoe, Lewis Hamilton returns to Singapore, a circuti featuring some of the best races from across his career.

The seven-time world champion enters the Singapore GP weekend on the longest run for a Ferrari driver without a podium, now standing at 15 races.

Finishing a competitive fourth in FP1 before slipping back to tenth in FP2, the seven-time world champion felt positive ahead of qualifying day on Saturday.

Speaking to media after the session, he confirmed progress with the SF-25, and revealed a new found confidence in driving the car, a factor sorely lacking this season.

“It’s generally been a good day. I’ve enjoyed driving the car. It’s the first time driving, obviously, a Ferrari at this track and I’ve always wanted all these years, from looking on onboards over the years, what the differences would be and it’s the first time I got to feel that today, and it was positive.

“So obviously McLaren is very fast and getting a clean lap is not easy, but I feel like there’s lots of positives to take from today, lots of learnings and quite happy with the progress that we’ve made from session to session.

Asked how he plans to build on momentum gained for qualifying, Hamilton admitted he did not anticipate drastic car setup changes.

LH:Yeah, I think I felt like we made steps forward today, so I feel like overnight probably won’t change much, but of course trying to refine the setup and see if we can extract a little bit more to get as close as we can to the McLarens.
